POTOSI, MO (KDKZ-TV) The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has received information regarding a scam involving the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say that someone reported that they received a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a member of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The “fake employee” proceeded to explain that they were trying to reach this person in regards to being served a civil subpoena. The “fake employee” explained to the person that they must call a 1-800 phone number in regard to the subpoena. Once the caller made contact with the 1-800 number, they tried to retrieve personal credit card information from this person.

The sheriff’s department says that they  never request anyone to contact a 1-800 to be served a subpoena, nor request any amount of money to serve a subpoena to you.

If you have been contacted, you should call the Washington County Sheriff’s Department at 573-438-5478.
