FARMINGTON, MO (KDKZ-TV) Experts say a lot of potential drug addiction problems could be prevented by simply disposing of old unused medicines. This Saturday we can all do our part.
Research shows that perhaps over half of the people who struggle with addiction to opioids or other drugs either started down that path or continued on it by getting leftover, unused, pills from friends and family.
Anne Hazlett says that these pills are easy to get a hold of.
“These are not substances that people are getting from a dealer on the street, in fact they are in our own homes,” she said.
Hazlett says that we need to quickly get them out of our homes.
Over 5,000 sites will be set up across the country for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28 to get rid of those medications.
