JEFFERSON CO., MO (KDKZ-TV) During the month of May, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase in the amount of reported stolen motor vehicles.

32 stolen vehicle reports have been received.   25 of the vehicles were taken by a person unknown to the victim.

With many of these incidents, the theft of the motor vehicle was a preventable crime.  In 72% of the reported vehicles stolen, with an unrelated suspect, the vehicles were left unlocked and with the keys inside.

It is urged that citizens lock their vehicles, store their keys in a safe location, and never leave a vehicle running unattended.

If you have any information regarding the theft of a motor vehicle, contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 636-797-5515.
