POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KDKZ-TV) A Poplar Bluff man that went missing on Monday has been found dead.
Authorities say that on Monday, they received a report of a missing person. A friend reported that 48-year-old Shawn Burkett was last seen on at around 9 a.m. the same day.
Burkett’s moped was located near Black River, parked under the Business Highway 60 Bridge. After receiving this information, police along with volunteers from SEMO Search and Rescue, searched along the banks of the river. No sign of Burkett was located.
Due to the location of Burkett’s moped, it was thought that he may have been fishing along the river. Additionally, it was feared that due to multiple health issues, Burkett may have fallen into the river and been unable to recover.
Search efforts continued into Tuesday, with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Division. These efforts proved unsuccessful in locating Burkett.
On Wednesday, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Division continued searching the river and subsequently located Burkett, in the river, just downstream of the Bartlett Street Bridge.
