FARMINGTON, MO (KDKZ-TV)July is National Ice Cream Month, and to celebrate dairy enthusiasts are encouraging everyone to eat some ice cream.
Nutrition educator Erin McGraw says you can fit ice cream into your everyday healthy lifestyle.
“A serving size of ice cream is, unfortunately for some people, about a half a cup, and that’s about the size of a tennis ball. So, ice cream could definitely and be healthy and the thing is that portion size,” she says.
A tennis ball is a good way to gauge that serving.
Erin says, it’s important that ice cream brings a little more to the table than some of your other desserts.
“Still a dessert, but it does bring calcium, protein and phosphorus which are essential for our body, so it could definitely take part of a healthy diet,” she said.
Variety is also key.
“But the great thing about ice cream and dairy foods is you have a lot of variety out there,” Rich said.
Sunday was National Ice Cream Day.
