A Monday evening police chase led to shots fired.

Authorities received word about a suspicious vehicle on Highway 47 heading towards Bonne Terre at around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of Benham Street Grill.  It was found that the gray Pontiac Sunfire had been reported stolen out of Desloge.

The driver exited the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the officer.  As the officer pointed his firearm back, the driver got back in his vehicle and drove towards the officer.  The officer then fired his gun.

The vehicle returned to Highway 47 traveling west.  Several agencies followed in the chase.  Authorities then lost sight of the vehicle. A report was given that the vehicle had crashed into a bridge, however the vehicle nor the suspect had been found. A short time later, the driver was found in Washington County.

Authorities say that the driver was taken to Mercy Hospital-Jefferson due to a drug-induced psychosis.

The officer nor the suspect were injured during this incident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.
