PARK HILLS, MO (KDKZ-TV) An investigation is underway by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, after a Park Hills officer was seriously injured Monday morning.

Authorities say that the officer, identified as officer Jeff Womble was struck by a vehicle, shortly after 5 a.m., while he was directing traffic at the intersection of Taylor Avenue and Parkway Drive.  Womble was directing traffic because a mail truck had lost part of its load on the roadway.

They say that the driver claims that they did not see the mail debris nor the officer directing traffic.

Officer Womble is currently in the hospital seeking treatment for his injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.  No charges are expected to be filed against the driver.
